The Bean Below
Quality, freshness, local produce and value for money are the key ingredients at the Bean Below restaurant in the Hampshire village of Twyford – a converted cellar which saw a previous life as a GPO sorting office.
During the day our busy, friendly staff serve breakfasts and lunches indoors or al fresco – and on Friday and Saturday evenings the mood changes, along with the surroundings, into an a la carte restaurant.
The restaurant works closely with Hampshire Fair, a group of food producers and farmers in the county to ensure consistent quality and use of the finest local ingredients.
The Chef
Chef Richard Parker specialises in game and fish dishes. On his menu, depending on availability, you will find dishes such as wild boar fillet with fondant potato and cider apple sauce; and whole gilt head bream stuffed with Mediterranean veg served with couscous and mixed leaf salad.
The Menu
The menu changes every month, in line with the seasons and the availability of local produce. The Bean Below can trace back the vast majority of ingredients. We’ll be able to tell you where the fresh salmon came from, and which farm provided the sirloin steak.
The sweets are also home made, using local produce as much possible. Crumble of the week is always the perfect choice.
Party!
The Bean Below is strong on parties, with group bookings a speciality. A bespoke service is provided for groups of up to 30 people. There are always vegetarian options to cater for every taste.
Wines & Entertainment
The restaurant serves reasonable priced wine that isn’t usually available in supermarkets. Our specialist supplier also provides stock for Twyford Stores.
Entertainment is the speciality of Ian James, the resident hairdresser upstairs. He entertains diners on selected evenings and, if he’s in the mood, he may even let you sing for your supper.
